Vimbai celebrates the African woman with 'Woman of the Soil' project

Star Gist presenter and 2-time AMVCA host, Vimbai Mutinhiri has collaborated with Nigerian photographer, Reze Bonna on a project to celebrate African women. The project is a photo campaign that showcases and celebrates the origins of African women. Continue...

Speaking about the project, Vimbai passionately says, "It is so important for African women to begin to take control of the image of the traditional roles we have played through history. While we are not competing with men, there is not enough being done to celebrate the strength of the African woman and the central role she plays in society and in particularly in our culture as Africans”

The project is essentially a collaboration between Vimbai Mutinhiri and Reze Bonna to celebrate the beacon that is the African woman: queen, mother, wife, daughter and warrior.

End SARS protest: Police deployed to Lekki toll gate [PHOTOS]

The Police have dispatched teams of operatives along the Lekki corridor ahead of Saturday’s End SARS protest at the toll gate. The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command confirmed the deployment. “CSP Yinka Egbeyemi is presently leading a team of police officers on a show of force to Lekki Toll Gate (Admiralty Plaza) Obalende, Ikoyi, Jakande Roundabout, and other areas in Eti Osa”, RRS tweeted Friday night. The Police department said this was “part of efforts to deter crime as well as boost the morale of his officers in the areas”. Two opposing camps – #OccupyLekkiTollGate and #DefendLagos – are planning separate protests on Saturday. This commenced after majority of the 9-member Lagos Panel of Inquiry approved the reopening of the toll plaza. Popular Nollywood Actor Ernest Asuzu Is Dead

Veteran Nollywood actor, Ernest Asuzu popularly known as El Cream, is dead. His wife, Jennifer Asuzu, who confirmed the sad incident, said he fainted on Tuesday evening and never woke up. Asuzu, who hailed from Imo, grew up in Lagos. In the late 90s he was into music and was a rapper, producer, director, and a television personality. He became more popular after featuring in a number of movies including “RITUALS” a movie that was produced by Kenneth Nnebue. The deceased acted in more than 100 movies since he joined the Nigerian movie industry. Some of the movies include: Living Abroad, Royal war, Last Wedding, Burning Desire, Ogidan, Never End, Broad Day Light, Ugonna and a popular hit movie, Labista which won him an award as the best supporting actor at the African Movie Academy Award. He was known to have acted alongside famous actors like Junior Pope Odonwodo, Gentle Jack, Emma Ahumadu, Jim Iyke, and Sylvester Madu amongst other celebrities.
